Hampshire school term dates 2026/27

Hampshire County Council publishes one term-date calendar each year for the schools it maintains. As published in September 2026 on the council's school holidays page, the 2026/27 year runs as follows. These dates apply to Havant, Bedhampton, Leigh Park and Warblington schools that follow the county calendar. Check the council page for the latest version, because dates can be revised.

Autumn term 2026

The autumn term runs from Tuesday 1 September 2026 to Friday 18 December 2026. October half-term is Monday 26 October 2026 to Friday 30 October 2026, with pupils returning on Monday 2 November 2026. That is the next break coming up for families, so book any October activities now.

Spring term 2027

The spring term runs from Monday 4 January 2027 to Thursday 25 March 2027. February half-term is Monday 15 February 2027 to Friday 19 February 2027. The Christmas holiday is the gap between the end of the autumn term on 18 December and the start of the spring term on 4 January.

Summer term 2027

The summer term runs from Monday 12 April 2027 to Wednesday 21 July 2027. May half-term is Monday 31 May 2027 to Friday 4 June 2027. The Easter holiday is the gap between the end of the spring term on Thursday 25 March and the start of the summer term on Monday 12 April.

The dates at a glance

Autumn term: 1 September to 18 December 2026, with half-term from 26 to 30 October. Spring term: 4 January to 25 March 2027, with half-term from 15 to 19 February. Summer term: 12 April to 21 July 2027, with half-term from 31 May to 4 June. Pupils return on the Monday after each half-term break. If you are booking travel, check your own school's calendar as well, for the reasons below.

Do academies in Havant follow the same dates?

Not necessarily. The county calendar applies to Hampshire's community and voluntary-controlled schools. Academies and free schools can set their own term dates and INSET (staff training) days. In the Havant area, Get Information about Schools lists Front Lawn Primary Academy and Havant Academy as academies, and Warblington School and Park Community School as community schools. Church schools such as St Alban's and St Thomas More's are listed as voluntary aided, so confirm their dates with the school.

If your child's school is an academy, or you are not sure, ask the school office for its calendar before you book anything you cannot cancel. As listed on Get Information about Schools, Front Lawn Primary Academy's phone number is 023 9247 5904 and Havant Academy's is 023 9306 3592. Our schools guide lists the other schools, with a link to each school's Ofsted page.

INSET days

On top of the term dates above, each school sets its own INSET days, when pupils do not attend but staff are in school. These are not part of the county dates in this guide, so two schools in the same street can close on different days. The reliable source is your own school's calendar, usually published on its website or in a newsletter at the start of the year.

Planning around the school year

The year gives three terms of different lengths, so it helps to mark half-terms in your calendar early. Many family activities and holiday clubs are built around the half-term weeks, and our things to do with kids guide lists venues that you can check for those weeks.

Applying for school places

Term dates are separate from admissions. Hampshire County Council runs admissions for Hampshire schools. As published in September 2026, applications for Year 7 entry in September 2027 close on 31 October 2026, and applications for Reception in September 2027 close on 15 January 2027. Use Hampshire County Council's admissions pages for how to apply and for the current dates.

Why the county calendar still matters

Even where a school sets its own dates, families often have children at more than one school, so it helps to compare calendars early in the year. Work out which of your children's schools follow the county calendar and which publish their own, and note any difference at the start and end of each term. Differences tend to matter most for booking holidays and holiday clubs.

Where to check

The definitive Hampshire calendar is on the council's school holidays page. If a date there ever differs from what your child's school has sent home, treat your school's own confirmed calendar as the one that applies to you.
