If your nearest dentist is not taking NHS patients
The NHS says you can contact any NHS dentist and ask for an appointment, and some practices offer both NHS and private appointments, so ask for an NHS one. You may be asked to join a waiting list, and filling in a registration form does not mean you will always be able to get NHS care there in future. If you cannot find an NHS dentist, the NHS says you can contact your local integrated care board, which manages dental services in your area and may be able to tell you where to get an appointment. For Havant that is NHS Hampshire and Isle of Wight ICB. See how to find an NHS dentist.
Use the NHS dentist finder and widen your search to neighbouring areas, since availability differs by practice. The finder also lets you filter by whether a practice accepts children, adults, or adults entitled to free dental care.
Urgent dental care in Havant
The NHS finder says any NHS dentist can offer you urgent NHS treatment, even if they are not accepting new patients or you have not been before. If you have a sudden dental problem, phone a dentist and ask for an urgent appointment. All nine Havant practices above showed the "urgent dental care" message.
NHS guidance on finding an emergency or urgent NHS dentist says to ask for an urgent appointment or get advice from NHS 111 if you have a knocked-out tooth, severe tooth or mouth pain not helped by painkillers, or have had a tooth removed and are bleeding or in severe pain. You should be offered urgent treatment within 24 hours or 7 days depending on your symptoms, and emergency care within 1 hour, or as soon as possible, for a knocked-out adult tooth.
Go to A&E or call 999 for serious facial or jaw injuries, heavy mouth bleeding that will not stop, or severe swelling affecting breathing or opening your eyes. Our urgent care guide lists the nearest urgent treatment centres and A&E, and a pharmacist can advise on painkillers while you wait (see our pharmacy guide).
What NHS dental treatment costs
As shown on nhs.uk on 5 October 2026, most adults pay for NHS dental care in three bands: Band 1 is £27.90, Band 2 is £76.60 and Band 3 is £332.10. Urgent dental treatment is £27.90. Some people can get free treatment or help with costs, and charges change, so check the NHS page before you go.
